Classes are taught one-on-one with Master Seamstress Penny Yvette Austin-Joasaaint. Penny attended The Fashion Institute of Design, The Mayer Dressmaking School, and the Tobey Coburn School of Fashion Business.
Penny uses the Project-based Learning Method.
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered teaching method where students learn core creative skills and academics by creating wearable art projects over an extended period of time.
Unlike a traditional project assigned after a unit is taught, PBL uses the project itself as the primary vehicle to deliver and frame the curriculum.
Instead of traditional lecturing, the teacher guides, coaches, and structures tasks while students collaborate.
The studio is based in Selden, New York, with instruction also available at locations across Suffolk County.
Make garments, accessories, and quilts while growing the skills to keep creating beyond the lesson.________
